Per Capita Income

Tulsa mayor GT Bynum set an ambitious goal for his administration: increase Tulsa's per capita income. Bynum highlighted this goal and other data-driven initiatives in his Feb. 2017 TEDx Pennsylvania Avenue Talk "Partisan Rhetoric is for Losers," in Washington, D.C.

To select policies necessary to meet this goal, the city needed to understand the factors correlated to per capita income. The City of Tulsa Office of Performance Strategy & Innovation asked Tulsa Data Science, Inc., (TDS) for help.

Using publicly available data from the U.S. Census Bureau, TDS applied a variety of data science methods to determine what features most significantly contribute to per capita income, and made formal recommendations to the Bynum administration for achieving the mayor's goals.
